About

How we work

Data Saves America is the research desk of the Dad Saves America show. It is where we put the inputs — the polls, results, ballots and numbers — so you can check our work and explore the issues of the day yourself, through the lens of heroic fatherhood.

Our standards

  1. Sourced. Every dataset lists the public sources it came from, and each record links to its source where one exists.
  2. Same rules for both sides. When we code something as left or right, the rule is written down and applied the same way in both directions. The reason for each call is shown next to it.
  3. Honest about uncertainty. Early results change. We label snapshots with their date, mark anything uncalled or unverified, and keep older snapshots so changes can be traced.
  4. Open data. You can download what we used. If you find an error, tell us and we will fix it in the open.

How a project is built

  1. Gather. Results, ballot measures and polling are collected from public reporting (AP, state election offices, Ballotpedia, pollsters) into raw files.
  2. Code. A build step normalizes the data and applies the coding rules — for example, which way a YES vote moves policy.
  3. Publish. The snapshot is loaded into our database as a new version and switched live in one step. The site reads only published data.

Privacy & security

  1. No tracking. No ads, no third-party scripts, no cookies. Fonts are served from this site, not from Google.
  2. Read-only by design. The public can only read published data. Database writes require a key that never leaves our machines, and row-level security is on for every table.
  3. Locked-down browser rules. Strict security headers (CSP, HSTS, no framing) are sent on every page.
